The Facebook “Friend” feature, which allows users to share photos and status updates with friends and family, is getting a boost in popularity among the tech community.
According to a new report by Trend Micro, the number of people using Facebook to share content with others has risen to an estimated 11.2 million.
According the study, “a growing number of Facebook users share their personal content online, which is being shared to tens of millions of people worldwide.”
It also found that “Facebook is becoming the most common destination for users to post personal content, and it continues to grow.”
Trend Micro found that there were 5.1 billion unique visitors to Facebook in the quarter ending December 31, 2017, up from 4.9 billion in the prior quarter.
It noted that this increase was driven by growth in online interactions, with the number increasing from a mere 2.3 million in the previous quarter to 3.4 million in 2017.
The company said that it expects the number to continue growing, noting that it is a relatively new addition to the social media landscape.
“The number of users using Facebook has been increasing steadily since its introduction in 2013,” it added.
“In the first quarter of 2018, Facebook was the third most visited website on the internet, after the Google and Twitter.”
